Seveneves

de Neal Stephenson

Como todo lo de Stephenson, brutal. La segunda parte es sorprendente, porque entiendes qué es eso de "seveneves" en la mitad del libro, cuando creías saberlo desde el principio.

The Moon explodes (in seven fragments), with the cause unknown. Scientists calculate that the shattered remnants of the Moon will collide with one another, with the number of collisions increasing exponentially, forming a "white sky" and blanketing the earth with what they call "Hard Rain", causing the atmosphere to burn and making the earth uninhabitable for thousands of years. It is decided to expand the International Space Station (ISS) into a "Cloud Ark" with a "swarm" of "arklet" habitats which will be able to avoid the debris from the moon. These arklets join together in rotating pairs to provide artificial gravity. The ISS is already bolted onto an iron asteroid called Amalthea, which provides some protection against moon debris. Robots are used to excavate Amalthea to provide more protection.
